FAQ About Medi-Cal:

  1. What is Medi-Cal?
Medi-Cal offers free or low-cost health coverage for California residents who meet eligibility requirements. You can apply for Medi-Cal benefits regardless of your sex, race, religion, color, national origin, sexual orientation, marital status, age, disability, or veteran status.
  2. What long term care will Medi-Cal pay for?
Medi-Cal can help with care at home through IHSS as well as other in-home programs, and Medi-Cal can also pay for long term care in a facility setting. Depending on the county you live in, Medi-Cal may help pay for your loved one’s stay in assisted living, skilled nursing/ convalescent facility or at a congregate living health facility.
  3. Should I apply for Medi-Cal even if I already have coverage through Medicare and my supplementary/ advantage plan?
Medi-Cal may pay for things that your supplement/ advantage plan does not, so we strongly advocate that anyone who can qualify for Medi-Cal should always have it.
